How We Got Here
Members of First Baptist Ashland and Shiloh Baptist Churches started a conversation in 2019 about supporting our community.
Each of us seeks to use our own skills and abilities to improve our lives and those around us. We knew that working together could increase the impact of our work. So, we started a discussion and that led to research, which led to meetings, and brought in partners.
In 2022, we established Empowering Neighbors as a 501c3 nonprofit organization and hired Brooks Woody as our Site Coordinator. In February 2023, we started providing free tax preparation services under partnership with United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg.
Going forward, we will invite each participant to join our group. We hope to build networks of neighbors with common interests, and to support their efforts to uplift one another.
